Terms of Service

1. The service

Retrievals lets you search 40,368 curated National Gallery of Art images with text descriptions. Public collection and blog pages do not require sign-in. Image uploads are not available. By using the service, you agree to these Terms. Our Privacy Policy explains personal data processing and your analytics choices.

2. Accounts

You need an account to search. Clerk handles sign-in. You must be at least 13 and provide accurate account information. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you must have a parent or guardian's permission. Keep your credentials secure and contact mmohamoud01@qub.ac.uk if you believe someone has accessed your account without permission.

Do not use multiple accounts to bypass access restrictions. Do not provide sensitive personal information in search queries.

3. Acceptable use

You must not:

• use the service unlawfully or infringe another person's rights;
• disrupt the service through scraping, automated requests, or other activity;
• bypass authentication, access limits, or security controls;
• misrepresent search results as official museum output.

4. Charges and future paid features

Paid credit packs are not currently available. These Terms do not sell credits or promise a monthly allowance. Before introducing charges, we will state prices, applicable limits, payment terms, and any refund or cancellation rights. Loading more results is part of the current search experience.

5. Artwork and site content

Artwork images and metadata come from the National Gallery of Art's open-access dataset. Check the NGA source page and its reuse terms for each work. These Terms do not create new restrictions on material that is in the public domain or available under CC0. Retrievals is not affiliated with or endorsed by the National Gallery of Art.

Our site text, design, and software have separate rights. Public access to the site does not grant a licence to copy those materials except where a licence or applicable law allows it.

6. Availability, accuracy, and legal rights

Results are automated similarity matches. They can be incomplete or incorrect and do not authenticate an artwork, establish ownership, or provide a valuation. Check the linked museum record before relying on details. We may change the model, collection, or ranking, and we do not promise uninterrupted availability.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including fraud or death or personal injury caused by negligence. Nothing removes your mandatory consumer rights or our obligations under applicable law.

7. Suspension and account deletion

We may restrict access where reasonably necessary to address misuse, security risks, a legal requirement, or a breach of these Terms. You can stop using the service at any time and request account deletion at mmohamoud01@qub.ac.uk. Data retention is explained in the Privacy Policy.

8. Changes and applicable law

We will update the date above when these Terms change and give notice of material changes where required. Changes do not remove rights you already have under applicable law. Nothing in these Terms prevents you from relying on mandatory protections or bringing a claim in a court available to you under that law.
